Chronicles of an Emerging Internet Marketer

Archive for the ‘Social Networking’ Category

My involvement with the Black Ink Project has led me to Twitter.

Jeremy Palmer recommended that all participants in BIP follow him on Twitter, along with a course specific blog, to stay updated on developments in the program.

Actually, I’ve seen references to Twitter all over the place lately. It seem to be escalating. “Everyone” seems to be recommending it as an excellent tool for marketing. Since it’s Web 2.0 social marketing, though, the value is in the connecting with others over time and what can come from that, rather than direct selling.

I’m starting to have fun with it. Other “tweeters” are following me, and some have made comments. I’m enjoying the contact and look forward to seeing how it develops.

Now, I’m not sure if “tweeters” is a correct term or not. I got an ebook on Twitter through my Earn1KaDay membership and I’m reading that to learn what makes Twitter tick. I move so much faster when I can get the “how to” without just tons of trial and error. True of most people, I hope.

I’ve heard there’s a Twitter widget available for the side bar on a blog. I’ll check into that and get it on here when I can.

If you’re on Twitter, make contact — I’ll follow you back. You’ll find me at twitter.com/yellowdog.

That’s it for now.

Well, I committed to a “One Page A Day” challenge for the month of February, organized by Eric Giguere of AdSense fame. I have subscribed to his blog and read it regularly. Good stuff.

Back to the challenge. The only rule is to publish 1 page of content online per day. I haven’t gotten off to a very good start, but I will finish strong. I’d like to rebuild some momentum with this blog and this should help.

I rejoined the 3WayLinks.net program. My focus continues to be on building links and links and links, and that is one way. In the process I am revamping websites and adding lots of content. I’ve sort of synthesized a new method for keyword research that gives me an idea of which keywords can actually rank and which have little chance. I love having a clear step by step method that I can follow. I can’t emphasize that enough. I am certainly not feeling as fuzzy about all this marketing stuff as I was many months ago — I’ve learned a ton! — but sometimes, it’s wonderful just to be really clear about what steps to take.

As I’ve mentioned before, other backlink building efforts are focused on article marketing and social marketing sites. I have a blue print from one of the members of the Earn1KaDay forum to follow for the social marketing. Dennis Becker (creater of 1KaD) is doing a tutorial now on using a wiki to get some good ranking on Google and I’m incorporating that too.

There are so many really really fun resources. I am having a very good time with my marketing efforts these days, moving a mile a minute, and getting a lot accomplished.

Another new resource is an online site that uses your images and creates some really professional looking videos in a flash. It’s great! I’m in the process of figuring out a process to add an automatic redirect when the video ends, and I’ll write more about it when I get some good results. I’m pretty sure I have all the tools and now just need to figure out some transitions — if that makes any sense.

That’s enough for now. I have to save something for tomorrow! Thanks for visiting.

Pretty low-key day today. I’ve spent sometime posting to blogs and adding articles to some webpages.

The blogs are ones I created to compliment the Niches-in-a-Box websites. I moved them to totally separate domains a short time ago, but used the same niches. Amidst the blog posts I’m featuring eBay auctions, using the BayRSS plugin. I have to say they look pretty cool. They’re all indexed. Now I have to promote. It would be a good idea to set aside a day this week to work on that.

I finally figured out how to put an optin box on a website and have the form fit in a sidebar! I know, I know, most people figured this out a long time ago. But I’m fairly new to Aweber and auto responders, and feel pretty good about my accomplishment. Now I can do it anywhere. Maybe I’ll add an optin to my NIAB blogs.

My latest read is “Strategic Social Marketing” by Laura Childs. I’ve sort of followed her work for a couple years now, maybe not closely enough though. She has been doing research on Web 2.0 and traffic for many months now. A definite trend she and others have documented is a decrease in traffic through search engines. Apparently SEs are not the portal of choice of a growing number of Internet users (like millions!). Web 2.0 properties are their choice instead. But there are SO many of them, I feel overwhelmed in an instant!

I’m only half way through her report so far, so still have no clue where to start generating traffic through some of the social bookmarking or social networking sites using Laura’s methods. She promises to teach how to set up a game plan. I’ve been bookmarking for a long time now and seeing minimal results. Laura also promises that this can improve, given some research and knowing how to approach each niche.

I’m interested in reading more. You can find Laura at The Stampede Secret if you’re interested. She’s sharp. She’s been on line for a long time, and knows how to weather the evolution. I’m glad I found her.

That’s all for now. Thanks for visiting and have a good one!

P.S. Remember, if you’re an eBay affiliate, there’s a free copy of the BayRSS plugin available to you. Check out the link I created for the sidebar, just under the Blog Rush box.

So Google Cash Detective was launched today and sold out its initial 500 copies within hours. Wow! I am an owner of Google Cash and like it. I also like Chris Carpenter the creator of these, and I’m glad for him.

I passed on GCD probably mostly because I’m not an Adwords master and couldn’t justify the expense. I did buy AdSpy Pro by JP Schoeffel, for a pretty small fee. JP claims his script will do just about what Chris’ will for a small percentage of the price. JP is still offering his product as a special offer if you want to check it out on the Warrior Forum.

These are programs that allow you to spy on other people’s adwords campaigns, by the way. You can do some research with them to identify successful campaigns and then one up them to take over making the profits.

I recently bookmarked one of my new sites (a Blogini blog) on Stumbleupon and got 150 visitors within the day. Pretty cool. I’ll have to figure out how to replicate that. I “stumbled upon” a couple other sites today and am curious about what will occur. I understand that even though the web 2.0 sites can send a ton of traffic to a site, the visitors are not as likely to click on adsense or make purchases.

I’ve got a bunch of fun projects going right now and I’m having fun working on them. Lots of variety. Cool.

This is what I wrote on Senserely Yours today:

Decided to check Google again today to see where I rank for some of my keywords in the SERPs.

Blogini is the first keyword I checked on. Blogini is the ’Global Weblog Network.’ In Blogini we create and maintain a blog, and then in the background the engineers build a steady network of backlinks to our sites. It’s sort of like magic! All of a sudden we have all these backlinks and we didn’t have to do the hard work.

But, interesting results! My Technorati tags page is #7 for this word in Google and on page 3, I see an earlier entry on Senserely Yours and my bookmark page in del.icio.us. Cool! Sure says something about the power of social bookmarking, doesn’t it?

The other keyword I checked up on is Boy Million. This is a fun site where we’re building the longest list of backlinks on the internet. Check itBoy Million out if you haven’t!

With Boy Million I’m on the 2nd page on Google, at #13 with my Squidoo lens and #14 with Senserely Yours again. Pretty cool! It’s time to putsome finishing touches on my Squidoo lens.

I admit I’m bragging. I like seeing results and I’m still new enough at internet marketing that I can get excited by this level of ranking. I won’t be satisfied with this for long though…
